Food Trucks on Bonaire
About food trucks on Bonaire
You'll find them along the main roads, at beaches, and in Kralendijk: colorful food trucks serving local food for reasonable prices. On Bonaire, these mobile kitchens are called 'Truk'i Pan' (bread trucks in Papiamentu), but they offer much more than just bread. From traditional kabritu stobá and piska kriyá to international dishes like burgers, wraps, and pizzas. Most trucks operate between 11:00 AM and 7:00 PM and only accept cash in US dollars.
What to expect
Budget $8-15 per person for a full meal, depending on what you order. A tuna wrap costs around $14.50, while local dishes are often slightly cheaper. Fries are usually not included with burgers and wraps but can be ordered separately. Portions are generally well-sized and food is prepared fresh to order.
The trucks serve a mix of local and international cuisine. You'll find traditional Caribbean specialties like funchi (corn porridge), piska kriyá (fried fish), and kabritu stobá (stewed goat meat), alongside popular international options like Mexican food, pizzas, BBQ, and healthy wraps. Some trucks specialize in one cuisine, others offer a diverse menu.
Where to find them
Popular locations include Sorobon Beach at Lac Bay, along Kaya Grandi in downtown Kralendijk, and at dive sites where you can grab a bite after diving. You'll also spot trucks at beaches like Te Amo Beach and at windsurfing spot Lac Bay where athletes can refuel after their activities.
Some food trucks have fixed locations, others move around the island. It's helpful to follow their social media for current locations and hours. Mobile trucks especially may change their spot depending on events or crowds at certain locations.
Tips for your visit
Always bring cash, as credit cards are rarely accepted. Most truck operators speak English and Papiamentu, and often Dutch or Spanish too. Food is usually prepared fresh, so expect a 10-15 minute wait for your order.
The atmosphere at food trucks is relaxed and local. You'll often eat standing by the vehicle or at nearby picnic tables. It's a perfect way to experience local food culture without spending much money. Especially after a day of diving, snorkeling, or windsurfing, visiting a food truck makes for a great ending to your day.
