Festivals and celebrations throughout the year
Bonaire buzzes year-round with colorful celebrations, traditional festivals and cultural events. From exuberant Carnival celebrations to intimate harvest festivals - each season brings its own magic. As your local guide, I'm happy to share the highlights of our festival year with you.
Maskarada - New Year's Celebration (January 1st)
The new year begins on Bonaire with Maskarada, a colorful tradition where groups of masked dancers and musicians parade through the streets. This joyful procession combines African, Dutch and Caribbean influences.

Bonaire Carnival (February-March)
Our Carnival lasts for weeks and culminates in the Grand Parade. This is the biggest celebration of the year, bringing the entire community together in an explosion of music, dance and color.
- The Tumba Festival takes place before Carnival - this is where the official Carnival hit is chosen

Dia di Rincon (April 30th)
Rincon, Bonaire's oldest village, celebrates its rich history with a day full of traditional music, dance and local delicacies. The Seu dance and live Tumba music take center stage.

Simadan Festival (February-May)
Our harvest festival celebrates the tradition of corn and sorghum harvesting. Although agriculture is less central than before, Simadan remains an important cultural moment full of gratitude and community spirit.

Bonaire Day (September 6th)
Our national holiday commemorates the discovery of Bonaire in 1499 and celebrates Bonairean identity. A day of pride, music and solidarity with events throughout the island.

Bonaire Sailing Regatta (October)

Music and dance - The heart of Bonaire
Tumba music forms the soundtrack of Bonaire, especially during Carnival. This unique music style combines African rhythms with Caribbean melodies. The Seu dance is our traditional folk dance.
